Blazing Saddles has a scene that is a perfect takedown of so much woke BS but you just can’t even reference it. Not even in these Days of Shiloh.

It’s the scene where Cleavon Little (channeling Richard Pryor) is pointing a gun at his own head.

If you know, you know.

Had to google it to remember the scene but I love that movie so much.

I want to thank you for introducing me to History Bites.

Blazing Saddles is one of the best movies of all time.

I notice you didn't thank me for introducing you to the Kittens Game

I hope that's because you're choosing to make better life decisions than I do, and not because you already knew about it 🤣. My current run has been going since December.

To tell you the truth, ever since Hunt the Wumpus in the 80s (I wrote my own in Applesoft Basic), I have not really played games.

Well, except for Starship Titanic when my son was little and we would play together. Because Douglas Adams is my personal deity, and that game is the most beautiful thing ever created.

Calling the Kittens Game a game is generous. It's more like a spreadsheet with a dedicated UI. Look at how prosperous we are. 2.31 billion units of catnip!

https://files.catbox.moe/wme36g.png

Currently, our civilization is breeding unicorns so they can slaughter them for time crystals, so they can abuse time travel in order to go into the future in order to collect antimatter faster in order to power our quantum supercomputers in order to reverse-engineer the crypto blockchain of Cthonic eldritch horrors, so I can crash their stock market and make a killing in blackcoin, which will let me buy relics, which I use to worship the devil so that my resource limits go up.

Not one word of that is an exaggeration about what is happening in that screenshot right now.

AHAHAHA I just realized that it's only a stroke of luck that I wasn't logged in to the save server when I took that screenshot, or else I would have doxxed my full name and address from the information in that picture.

Phew

The tag line of the game is "The Dark Souls of incremental games" and that's a perfect summary

Honestly, I need to rewatch the other one in full instead of just looking up the individual bits on Youtube, but I think History of the World Part 1 is better than Blazing Saddles

Blazing Saddles is still awesome though.

I have no idea why, but my very favorite scene in the whole movie is the "shitload o' dimes." https://youtu.be/9Zp6IjMttIE

It cracks me up every time.

I had a big-time crush on Gene Wilder as a result of that movie, which partly explains it.

Unless you are a dude, in which case I always assumed you were straight.

Wow! I”m a 72 y/o lady! Very recently I found Soban, and I’m trying to wrap my head around his journalistic methods. I’m quite impressed. I agree and identify with plenty of his observations. But once I’ve finished his commentary for the day, I need to take a chocolate/wine break. My head is full. :)

ahaha.

Quite literally I am just screaming my thoughts into the void because my friends got tired of me writing essays to them in text messages.

Come to think of it, that's how my last blog started too.

I do want to emphasize: I'm just a guy. This is just my opinion. I am not doing journalism. Obviously, I'm saying things that I think are true, or are likely to be true, but at the end of the day, I'm just a rambling guy who wants a platform to stick a bunch of audience-inappropriate jokes into his writing

(Especially the last few posts have had dozens of software engineering jokes in them, and I think only like 3 of my readers have the background to get them. I don't care, they made _me_ laugh)

You couldn’t make MOST movies made during the 1970s today. It’s pretty sad.

Another blog post I have percolating in the back of my mind is roughly entitled "all art before 2014 is banned, all art after 2014 is garbage".

One thing I've done recently is rewatched a bunch of old shows that I used to like. South Park, Archer, Venture Bros, Futurama, etc. And so many of them, despite having been considered progressive and edgy when they were current, would be clearly just de facto illegal today.

For a particularly visceral example, consider Whitest Kids U Know (RIP In Peace, Trevor Moore). The very first sketch on their pilot episode was called "Hitler Rap" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WzxiWWZnww. This was aired on TV in 2007. "Cuz I put my past behind, you can think what you will. But no more propaganda it's Triumph of the Ill"

I don't even have to say "you couldn't make this today". When I was in exile in Canada last month, I wanted to rewatch them, and found that Youtube made them available for free in Canada (note: I can't load this link from the US, ymmv) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-bGQIhF0gQ. Not only were several episodes (including the one with Hitler Rap) missing, but a lot of the sketched were censored significantly harder than they were when aired on TV originally.

I’m a 67 year old American. Most Saturday Night Live shows during the ‘70s would never get aired today….. the list is so long it’s useless to try to compile it.
