Speaking of beautiful games. (I Am Not A Gamer and don't usually read your game posts all the way through.)

I did enjoy text-based games in the late 80s and 90s. Douglas Adams, my personal deity, actually produced a text game called Bureaucracy; I still have the floppy somewhere and you can find web-based versions of it online, though the interface is kind of wonky.

The most beautiful game I've ever seen, hands down, is Adams's Starship Titanic. I played it with my son when he was little. We never made it all the way through because for a little kid and his non-gamer mom, the puzzles were pretty difficult. But just wandering around in that amazing environment was satisfaction enough.
